The fourteenth day of the dark fortnight. In Nepal it is Kukur Tihar, when dogs, the guardians of Yama’s gate, are garlanded, given tika and fed. In India it is Naraka Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali, remembering Krishna’s victory over Narakasura, with an oil bath before dawn; in Gujarat and Bengal it is Kali Chaudas.
